Why You Should Have Eucalyptus Oil in Your Bathroom Cabinet

Eucalyptus oil comes from the leaves of an evergreen tree that is commonly native to Australia.

Eucalyptus has a lot of medical benefits that can improve your overall health and has antiseptic properties. Here are a few reasons why you should have eucalyptus oil in your bathroom cabinet:

 

Coughs

Eucalyptus oil is very good for helping with coughs. A lot of products aimed at alleviating coughs already has eucalyptus in it e.g. VapoRub. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a carrier oil and applying on your chest can help with a chesty cough.

 

Respiratory Conditions

Inhaling steam with eucalyptus oil may help conditions such as asthma, COPD, bronchitis and sinusitis. The oil will help loosen up mucus blocking the airway, allowing breathing to be easier. You can add about 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil into a bucket of 500ml of boiling hot water, lean in and cover your head with a towel for about 5-7 minutes. 

 

Scalp and Hair

Incorporating eucalyptus oil into your scalp and hair products could help tackle dandruff or yeast build on your scalp and hair. All you need to do is add a drop to your shampoo or add a few drops with a carrier oil (olive, coconut oil etc.) and applying to the scalp, then rinsing off. It should help reduce dandruff on your scalp. 

 

Muscle and Joints

Eucalyptus oil may be very helpful in easing muscle and joint pains. Mixing a few drops of the essential oil to a carrier oil and massaging the affected area may subside the pain and discomfort. You should consult your doctor prior to use. 

 

Cold Sores

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it may be very effective in soothing the pains of a cold sores. 

 

Insect Repellent 

As eucalyptus has antiseptic and anti-microbial properties, it can help ease insect bites. It can also help with cuts and sores. Adding a drop or two to a cotton pad can subside the pain. 

 

Note: You should not use eucalyptus oil if you react badly to it or have allergies.
          You should always dilute eucalyptus oil with a carrier oil or water.
